Empowering students to explore their creative expression, develop their confidence, and find their voice.

The Regional Arts Drama Program.

The Regional Arts Drama program empowers students to explore their creative expression, develop their confidence, and find their voice.

In the classroom, students explore a variety of different theatre forms, from the early beginnings to contemporary times. The learning is enhanced by masterclasses and workshops conducted by leading industry professionals. The RAP drama program prepares students for a variety of jobs in the performance industry, but also offers transferable skills that will be of benefit in any career that they pursue.

As an extension of our curricular programs, students are given numerous yearly field trip opportunities to watch live theatre in Toronto, New York, and overseas. Students not only experience art in the classroom, but they are provided the opportunity to experience it in the community and beyond.

Beyond classroom instruction, Mayfield drama offers a plethora of opportunities for our students to be involved in the school community. Not only do students have the opportunity to perform on stage in our newly renovated, state of the art auditorium, but they have performance opportunities in the community, including at Toronto’s Nuit Blanche. Students can also join one of the many extra-curricular clubs and teams within the program, including the Improv team, costume crew, props crew, set crew and many many more.

The experience and opportunity afforded to the students in the Drama RAP program, is second to none, and a program that they will not regret once they walk through our theatre doors.

Alumni Testimonials.

“I own a media production company called “Falling Motion”. We shoot Weddings, Music Videos, Commercials, Events, Advertisements, Films, Documentaries, we do photo, video, sound, we basically do it all. I’m able to do all of that because of the RAP drama program. I didn’t know it then, but it gave me all the tools I needed to succeed in this field and to succeed in life in general.”

— Akil McKenzie

“Currently I’m an independent artist and an arts educator at the heart of the Riverdale Community Centre in Whitehorse Yukon. I’m teaching children how to Rap, Dance, as well as Music Production. I can say with certainty that the RAP drama program was pivotal to my success and my career. “

— Gautam Tiwari

“I am currently working as a Freelance Theatre Professional specializing in stage production and event management. If it weren’t for my time at Mayfield, if it weren’t for the teachers, and my classmates who supported me and encouraged me and who taught me so much about the industry then I probably wouldn’t have pursued a career in theatre and I am incredibly thankful for that.”

— Jenna Borsato

“The drama program at Mayfield has equipped me with transferable skills for every workplace that I’ve stepped into. It taught me to exercise and nurture my creativity and see the world through a different perspective. This program does such important work in shaping young minds into brilliant creative forces of nature, who through arts make our world a much better place. I would not be the creative I am today, but more importantly the person I am, if I didn’t go through the regional arts drama program at Mayfield.”

— Theresa Gerrow

“One thing I’m super thankful for is my time at Mayfield. It really did change my life. It gave me a lot of skills that I didn’t know I had in me. I thought I was super shy and quiet, but the drama program really helped me open up and gave me a way to find my voice.”

— Jessie Brar

“My work in poetry has taken me all across North America. I never thought it could but I've been able to teach, I’ve been able to perform, and also compete. I’ve competed in The Women of the World Poetry Slam in Dallas Texas, at the Canadian Festival of the Spoken Word, The Canadian Individual Poetry Slam and a lot of different competitive spaces which have not only given me chances to perform but also network. Obviously the interpersonal communication skills and just being able to be confident in myself, in my voice and in who I am is a huge part of what Mayfield taught me.”
